LEGISLATIVE INTERNSHIP:

August 2024: As of said date, I am serving as an intern for Assistant Minority Leader Jarrells of Ohio House District 1, which encompasses the communities of Bexley, Franklinton, and Downtown Columbus. In this role, I am responsible for addressing the concerns and complaints of over 120,000 constituents, ensuring their voices are heard and their issues are resolved promptly. My tasks include managing office correspondence, handling invitations, and responding to constituent inquiries through both email and phone calls. I am also involved in supporting the development and progress of key legislation by researching bills, providing feedback, and assisting with policy discussions. Additionally, I attend legislative meetings and assemblies, gaining first-hand experience in the legislative process. My contributions have included assisting with bills related to education, healthcare, and economic development within the district, which has deepened my understanding of both the intricacies of public policy and the importance of constituent engagement. This internship has enhanced my skills in communication, problem-solving, and legislative advocacy, solidifying my commitment to public service and political change.

NATIONAL CONVENTION:

April 2024: I was honored to be selected as one of three students to represent Ohio State University at the National Student Leadership Diversity Convention (NSLDC) in Orlando, Florida. Alongside my peers, I participated in a transformative weekend of learning, engaging in experiential workshops, keynote sessions, and roundtable discussions focused on diversity, leadership, and inclusion. These experiences provided a deeper understanding of the challenges minorities face, both on a personal level and within the broader campus community. During the conference, I worked collaboratively with other student leaders to develop a Campus Action Plan, aimed at bringing the lessons learned back to Ohio State and fostering a more inclusive campus environment. This opportunity also allowed for personal growth, as I reflected on how my experiences as a minority intersect with my role in student leadership. Beyond the educational sessions, I was able to explore the vibrant city of Orlando and visit landmarks such as Disney Springs, further enhancing my experience. This conference not only broadened my perspective on diversity but also strengthened my commitment to advocating for a more inclusive and equitable campus culture.

STUDENT SENATOR:

August 2024: As the Off-Campus Living Area Senator for Ohio State University’s Undergraduate Student Government, I have the privilege of representing over 30,000 off-campus and commuter students, advocating for their voices and addressing their unique needs within the larger student body. I focus on critical issues such as transportation, parking, campus safety, and fostering stronger connections between off-campus students and campus resources. By collaborating regularly with university administration, student groups, and campus organizations, I work to ensure that commuting students have access to the support and opportunities they need to thrive academically, socially, and personally. As a current commuter myself, I bring a firsthand understanding of the challenges faced by this demographic, allowing me to advocate with authenticity and empathy. My role involves not only representing these students in policy discussions but also working to create initiatives that bridge the gap between on-campus and off-campus communities, ensuring that all students feel included and engaged in campus life.
